A service with animals or U2 songs, a family fun festival, a provocative film screening—there’s always something going on at Holy Covenant. If you know of an event we should list, contact us.
All events are at Holy Covenant UMC, 925 W. Diversey, unless otherwise indicated.

Winter Small Group Series: Crazy Love
As a Holy Covenant community, we have one big thing to offer to one another, to strangers, and to any person who walks in our door: LOVE. What better place to practice this than in our small groups? See our Winter Small Groups.
LENT RETREAT – Saturday, March 3
On Saturday, March 3, Holy Covenant will host a Lenten Retreat at the church from 9:00 am to noon with lunch to follow. The focus of this year’s retreat will be Centering Prayer. A Spiritual Practice that has grown out of ancient mysticism, Centering Prayer enables its practitioners to become more attentive to the present moment and to the divine presence. DIGNITY DINER TURNS 20!
Dignity Diner is going to be 20 years old, yes 20!! We are getting very excited to celebrate 20 amazing years of providing the homeless and hungry a vegetarian restaurant style meal served with dignity and respect. We are thinking of having a few smaller events leading up to the larger celebration that we are aiming to have this Fall. Please stay tuned for our plans! If you would like to help with the 20 year Celebration plans, please email Kara Teeple. Thanks for all of your support!
CHILI/PIE COOKOFF – March 17, 11am-2pm
The Super Bowl? Over. Opening day? Months away (and really, the Cubs won’t be competitive for at least 3 years). Stanley Cup? At the rate the Hawks are losing, we’ll be lucky for a play-off berth. That leaves D Rose to carry the weight of sports and competition for this city. It’s simply too much for one man (Jordan he is not, yet). The Fun Squad will ease that burden, because it’s that time of year again … the Chili/Pie Cook Off! Mark your calendars for 3/17, from 11-2 and bring what you think is your award-winning pie or chili … if you’re up to the challenge. If not, you can simply eat. Let Matt (P) know if you’d like to enter, and what you’re entering! RSVP on Facebook.
Daily Lent Devotional
Rev. Polly is assembling a daily devotional for the upcoming season of Lent. Participants will be assigned a daily passage in the hopes that you could write a few words about meaning the text does (or perhaps doesn’t?) have for you. Please let Polly know ASAP if you are interested in participating, and she will send out details and assign passages. ANY response to the text is just fine- from those of all backgrounds, ages, in words or artform….whatever.

Volunteer with Reconciling Ministries Network at General Conference
April 24 – May 4, 2012
Every 4 years, the global United Methodist Church gathers for General Conference, a two-week legislative event that sets the policy and direction of the church for the upcoming 4 years. This spring, during General Conference 2012, we have an opportunity to help create the change we wish to see in our church. Though there will also be some opportunities for prayer and involvement at home (more to come in the upcoming weeks), we invite you to consider volunteering with Reconciling Ministries Network during General Conference, April 24-May 4 in Tampa, FL. A handful of Holy Covenant-ers are already committed (probably around the April 27-29 weekend), and we’d love for you to join us. Please contact Katie Wickman for more details.
Wild Goose Festival: Four Day of Music, Justice, Spirituality, and Art.
The Wild Goose is a Celtic metaphor for the Holy Spirit. We are followers of Jesus creating a festival of justice, spirituality, music and the arts. The festival is rooted in the Christian tradition and therefore open to all regardless of belief, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, denomination or religious affiliation.
The Spiritual Formation Committee is working on gathering a group from Holy Covenant to attend this year’s Wild Goose Festival. Last year’s festival included speakers such as Phyllis Tickle, Brian McLaren, Tony Jones, and Peter Rollins. Tickets for the festival are currently $139. The festival is hosted at a campground in North Carolina. In the next month or so, Hannah Holtgeerts and Rob Rawls are hoping to meet with those interested in attending to coordinate transportation, camping gear, and food. If you are interested in attending, please notify Rob Rawls and go to www.wildgoosefestival.org to purchase a ticket. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Rob. If you want more information on the event, visit www.wildgoosefestival.org.

WHAT BRINGS YOU TO THE TABLE?
Do you remember your first Sunday at Holy Covenant? What about this place truly feels like “home” for you? How do you now show others to the “welcome table”? Everyone has a story, and the Communications Committee wants to hear yours: how you found your way through our doors, what impelled you to stay, and how you now share your HC experience with others. Stories will be published (with your permission, of course!) to the church Web site. Email communications@holycovenantumc.org for more info!
DIGNITY DINER
Be part of hospitality at Dignity Diner! Diner guests really enjoy one on one interaction and so what better way to help than to take this role on and to make it the best it can be! This could mean just sitting at a table visiting with the guests, thinking of games like bingo that can be arranged for just after the meal, or really anything else creative to engage Diner guests and to make them feel as welcome as we can. Volunteer any Tuesday night by contacting Kara Teeple.
The Diner also could always use help with dessert so maybe you are an awesome baker and would like to bake something for dessert for the guests. Sign up for a Tuesday night dessert donation on the board at services, or contact Kara Teeple.
CALLING ALL ARTISTS!

If you are an artist, consider exhibiting your work this year in the Gallery. If you know an artist, recommend that person to the Gallery. Email Ali (curator@holycovenantumc.org) for more info and feel free to check out our Craigslist post.
