Change the World

dignitydiner Change the World
Ministries of justice and action are a proud part of Holy Covenant’s history—and an integral component of our community life. We open our doors to all of God’s people and seek to make connections between faith and real life.

Dignity Diner

Every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m., Chicago’s homeless and hungry are invited to be our guests for dinner. Neighborhood volunteers and parishioners welcome forty to sixty men and women for a sit-down, restaurant-style vegetarian meal. Feeding body and soul, Dignity Diner is a place where compassion and respect are always on the menu. To volunteer, contact Kara Teeple.

Sister church solidarity

Holy Covenant has partnered with Humboldt Park United Methodist Church, 2120 N. Mozart St., for a meaningful relationship of mutual support and education. E-mail sisterchurch@holycovenantumc.org for more information or to get involved.

Mission projects

Our goal is to serve our neighbors near and far, stand against injustice and oppression, and practice God’s transformation and restoration of the world. Throughout the year, Holy Covenant’s mission team offers hands-on congregational mission days and social justice education and action events. Most recent project: a short-term mission trip to Iowa Memorial Day Weekend.

Reconciling ministries

Holy Covenant joins hundreds of other United Methodist congregations and communities to open wide the doors of the Church to people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, and to call for their full participation in the community of faith. Members of the Reconciling Ministries Network proclaim and live out the simple, powerful life of hospitality and love shown to us in Jesus Christ. Our own reconciling ministries team works to maintain connections with other Reconciling Congregations and provides opportunities for education and action.

Lakeview Action Coalition

Holy Covenant joins 35 institutional members, including religious congregations, not-for-profit agencies, banks, business associations, a credit union, and a senior citizens caucus to be part of the Lakeview Action Coalition.  The coalition enables its members to act on their values in public life by participating in the decisions that shape our community’s future; it fulfills this mission by organizing people around issues affecting our members and by developing leaders through training, action and reflection.

Environmental issues

We seek to become a greener church living toward a sustainable creation. Our green team looks within and without the church for ways to care for the earth.

Giving

Your financial gifts support these projects and other efforts to change the community within and outside the church walls. See our giving page for more details.
