Celebrating Holy Covenant’s 20th Anniversary as a Reconciling Congregation
Twenty years ago, in August 1990, the Church Council voted to become a Reconciling Congregation—a church that welcomes people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. This was a special moment in our church’s history that recognized what was already true for decades—Holy Covenant was and is a place of welcome for gay and lesbian families and their allies.
We celebrate with pride the 20th Anniversary of Holy Covenant as a Reconciling Congregation. This year we will commemorate this anniversary throughout the year. Come and join the celebration! We’ll be updating event listings throughout the year on this page.
Draft Policy on Christian Marriage Listening Sessions
Last January, the Reconciling Committee formed a Task Force on Christian Marriage to study and discern how to celebrate gay and straight relationships at Holy Covenant. After 12 months of prayer, study and dialogue, the Task Force is prepared to present a Draft Policy on Marriage for the consideration of the congregation. The draft policy will be unveiled at the Congregational Summit on Saturday, February 6. Starting the third week of February, the Task Force will host listening sessions to gather feedback from the congregation on the policy. We encourage you to sign up for the listening sessions in the coming weeks.
Pride Month & Reconciling Jubilee – June
June is Pride Month across the country and we will celebrate our Reconciling identity all month! Our month-long Reconciling Jubilee will consist of fun-filled events and activities, including the 41st Annual Chicago Pride Parade. We are now looking for a Jubilee Planning Team. If you are interested in being a part of the Jubilee Planning Team, please contact David Braden at reconciling@holycovenantumc.org.
